Human Computer Systems Research Group

Introduction

The Human-Computer Systems Research Group is working on interaction design which is both effective (usable) and affective (enjoyable). Our research interests encompass the following areas:

Current Research Programme

  • The measurement of affect during call centre shifts

  • Performance support for emotional competences at the customer interface

  • Situation awareness and working memory in an ATC context

  • The creation of a visual programming language to support user-centred, graphical interface design

  • Interface re-design from a 'green screen' application to e-commerce: the effects on credibility

  • A social-psychological analysis of computer-mediated communication (CMC).

  • Digitally displayed emotional cues in CMC to support a virtual work team

  • Concatenative Speech Synthesis: Acoustic Evaluation of the TD-PSOLA Algorithm for Pitch-Manipulation of Speech

  • Electronic Lectures for learning, teaching and training (DIYEL)
